After the first Formula 1 Grand Prix in Australia, Richard Mille and IWC scored 27 points, putting them in first and second place. GP is in fifth position with eight points scored by Lawrence Stroll and Fernando Alonso. But with 23 races to come, there's still everything to play for. Formula 1 and watch brands have a special relationship that continues to give us fascinating timepieces, such as the Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Aston Martin F1 Edition. This 44mm three-hander in a Grade 5 titanium case is not just as light as an F1-themed watch should be, but it also has a remarkable paint job. Is this the crucial element that puts this GP ahead of the competition? The 2025 Formula 1 season sees a record number of 24 Grand Prix. In the end, which watch brand will be victorious? To see which brands are competing, please read Ben's recent article that gives you an overview of every watch brand sponsorship for the 2025 F1 season. Girard-Perregaux has been with Aston Martin since 2021 when the British team returned to the highest motorsport class. And the watch brand will stay on board until at least 2026. Last season wasn't what AM had envisioned. However, the first race of the 2025 season showed that genius veteran chief designer Adrian Newey’s arrival might have shown an effect already. Newey designed winning cars for Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull, and some attribute his success to his ability to visualize an airflow before sketching it. It brings us to the chronograph that Girard-Perregaux built; it has a remarkably sketched dial. The Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Aston Martin F1 EditionThe Laureato Absolute Aston Martin F1 Edition is an accompaniment of sorts to the recent Laureato Chronograph Aston Martin Edition. The latest watch has a 44 14.65mm case made of sandblasted Grade 5 titanium. It's a three-hander with a date indicator at 6 o'clock that immediately tells you about the link with the F1 team due to the lime-green frame. The partly skeletonized hour and minute hands do too, but they also have a non-F1 link. They're inspired by the front of road-going Aston Martins, such as the current DB12. Luminescent material on the hands aids readability in restricted lighting conditions. Denoting each hour is an applied baton index, again incorporating luminescent treatment. The green dial is very British, and the lime-green central seconds hand, date frame, and hour/minute hand tips are very reminiscent of the Aston Martin Formula One car.Under the bonnet/hoodTicking beneath the titanium case back engraved with Aston Martin's iconic emblem beats the in-house GP03300 caliber. Girard-Perregaux makes this movement in La Chaux-de-Fonds, and it features an oscillating weight adorned with circular C?tes de Genve. Furthermore, the movement shows straight C?tes de Genve on the bridges, beveling, mirror-polished screws, perlage n the main plate, and engraved gilded text, all executed to high watchmaking standards. Not that you can see it because of the all-metal case back… Then again, luxury watchmaking is also about the things the eye can't see. What you can most definitely see, though, is the dial-matching green strap. This FKM rubber fabric-effect strap looks technical, fits the style of the oversized case, and keeps the watch wearable. FKM rubber feels very comfy since it's more flexible than conventional rubber. Apart from that, it’s also more resistant to wear and tear. Girard-Perregaux pairs the strap with a titanium folding clasp featuring a micro-adjustment system. The Girard-Perregaux Laureato Absolute Aston Martin F1 Edition is limited to 88 pieces. The watch has a price of CHF 13,700.
